Can anybody explain to me how or why this makes sense? More importantly, why aren't people out there protesting for the stupid elected officials who decided on this?

Lost Income Tax = Less State Budget

In order to save the budget, lets forcibly cut an entity that is KNOWN TO BE HUGELY PROFITABLE???

Booze deprivation aside, this has got to be one of the stupidest economical decisions I've seen made in the Beehive in recent history.

"DABC officials estimate that for each dollar cut from the budget, the state could lose up to $5 in sales revenue."

Why would you ever make a cut like this, let alone during a recession? I smell biased priorities.

Just to piss you off, Wudda, I got the following info from an *ahem* anonymous councilwoman.

The SSL liquor store was closed, and a new "nice" one was opened up in Holladay by the old Cottonwood Mall. They didn't NEED a new liquor store, but now all of the ghetto money from SSL is flowing out of the poor neighborhood and feeding the rich. They refuse to join SSL, because they don't want to share their assets with us, but it's fine to take our finances.

Suffice it to say that I will be shopping at Sugarhouse and Taylorsville, and giving the finger to the rich folks on the hill.

Doesn't a "State Liquor Store" generate revenue for the state, not the neighborhood?
